Our Lakeland Beyond website has been designed to help you plan your holiday in the Lake District around your own needs or interests. You will find two main sections:

1. Regional Pages - these pages contain information about the different regions, valleys, towns and villages including recommended accommodation, attractions and even a few sample itineraries based on public transport, walking or driving, and tips for walks, views and even shops and restaurants. All places to stay, restaurants or even shops shown on this site have been selected following recommendations based on quality of service, location and, wherever possible, on their 'green' credentials.

2. Special Interest Pages
- these pages contain comprehensive information about a wealth of special interest subjects related to Cumbria, ranging from Literature to Industrial Heritage, Sports, Wildlife, Castles, Gardens, Railways, Local Breweries and shopping. You will come across familiar characters associated with our region such as Wiliam Wordsworth, Stan Laurel, Peter Rabbit, the Swallows and Amazons, and even Thomas the Tank Engine! These pages also contain maps to assist you where appropriate, for example showing castles, stone circles, nature reserves, railways, viewpoints, and film or literary locations.

You will also find other useful links at the bottom of this page and on other pages as appropriate. If you have any comments, feedback or require further assistance or ideas feel free to contact us.

You will find further detailed information about each of these regions on the separate pages. There are links to selected accommodation ranging from Youth Hostels and Bed & Breakfast guesthouses to 5-star historic hotels, transport options, attractions and other useful information and personal recommendations which will assist you in planning your visit.

We have further subdivided the regions following natural and political bondaries, mainly based on valleys radiating from rthe central massif of the Lake District. Many of the regions have been named according to the main rivers into which they drain. For example Windermere drains into the Leven Valley and Coniston nto the River Crake.
