CANDLEMAS

Candlemas falls around the 2nd of February, 40 days after Christmas. Beeswax candles are blessed by the priest for the coming year. In Cumbrian tradition Candlemas may even mark the end of winter, i.e.

"If the thrush sings afore Candlemas Day,
It does nowt after but repent and pray
If Candlemas Day be sunshining and warm,
Ye may mend yer oald mittens and look for a storm.
It Candlemas Day be fine and clear,
We'll get two winters in one year."

This gleaming dress represents candlight and the obscurity of the February skies. It is a two piece outfit using two-faced metallic silver and grey viscose and silk fabric, embellished with Swarovski crystals. The top and skirt could be worn separately; for example the top would work very well with a pencil skirt. It would be ideal for somebody with wide shoulders, or an athletic figure, as it disguises the waist. Classic evening wear.

Candlemas is a unique, one-off design for exhibition purposes. It can be recreated to your size and with your choice of fabrics.
Once the design has been sold it will not be repeated.
